The Blue Hens women's basketball team will host Richmond on Thursday in the opening round of the Women's National Invitational Tournament.
"We're obviously very excited to go into postseason play," head coach Tina Martin said in a statement late Monday night. "This is a great opportunity for our young team to experience the postseason and we're thrilled that we were awarded a home game. We hope the fans will come out and cheer us on one more time."
The winner of the 7 p.m. game at the Bob Carpenter Center will play the winner of the Syracuse vs. Harvard matchup.
The Hens are 0-4 in WNIT play. Their last appearance was a 64-57 loss at Pittsburgh in 2006.
The WNIT is a national tournament that invites 64 teams that do not make the NCAA tournament. A win in last weekend's CAA Championship would have given Delaware an NCAA berth, but the Hens narrowly lost in the semifinal game.
Four other CAA teams - Old Dominion, Virginia Commonwealth, Hofstra and Drexel - also made the WNIT.
Tickets will be available for purchase beginning Tuesday at 10 a.m. All seating, with the exception of courtside seating, will be general admission. Ticket prices are $12 for adults, $9 for children 3-17 (including students), and $36 for limited courtside seating. Tickets are available for purchasing online at www.ticketmaster.com, and in-person at the Bob Carpenter Center Box Office (10 a.m.-6 p.m.) and Trabant Student Center Box Office (10 a.m.-2 p.m.).
