A fire that ripped through a Newark-area town house complex Sunday night destroyed one home, damaged several others and killed two family pets.

The fire broke out at approximately 7:21 p.m. in unit block of Palmer Place in the Kimberton neighborhood, located off of Marrows Road, said John Farrell, spokesman for Aetna Hose Hook and Ladder Company.

Firefighters arrived to find flames showing from the first and second floor windows of a two-story town house, Farrell said. It took 75 firefighters from Aetna and other nearby companies an hour to get the blaze under control.

The house where the fire started was completely destroyed, and nearby residences sustained moderate damage, Farrell said. A cause has yet to be determined.

No residents or firefighters were injured, but the blaze killed two dogs.
