University Police are asking the public’s help in finding a man who attempted to steal a laptop from Morris Library earlier this month.
Police say the suspect took an unattended laptop from the third floor of the library at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 9. After the owner notified the library staff of the theft, the suspect turned the computer over to an employee at the front desk before fleeing.
Though the incident occurred three weeks ago, police are just now releasing information about it to the public. Investigators have spend the last three weeks working leads and comparing details of the thefts with similar incidents, said police spokesman Maj. Joel Ivory.
“Since none of those panned out, we decided to elicit the public’s help,” Ivory said Friday.
The suspect is described as 5 feet, 3 inches tall to 5 feet, 5 inches tall; with a slender build, short, dark hair; and a large, red burn scar on the right side of his chin about the size of a silver dollar. He was last seen wearing an oversized, black, faux leather jacket; a black baseball cap and baggy jeans and carrying a royal blue backpack.
Police are asking anyone with information about the theft to contact Det. Diana Palladino at (302) 831-2220.
