Michael Gamel-McCormick, the dean of the College of Education and Public Policy, is resigning after only nine months on the job, officials announced Wednesday.

Gamel-McCormick will step down as dean April 1, but will remain at the university as a human development and family studies professor and associate director of the Center for Disabilities Studies, Provost Tom Apple said in a statement.

"I am proud of all that Michael has accomplished as dean, and I am particularly pleased that he will remain on our faculty and continue to share his expertise and knowledge," Apple said. "As we looked at the future of the University and the future of the college, it became clear to me that we need a new vision for the alignment of departments."

Gamel-McCormick has been a professor at the university since 1995 and was appointed dean of CEPP in July 2009.

An interim dean will be appointed by April 1, Apple said.
