Update 3:55 p.m., June 25: This article has been corrected to reflect new information supplied by university police. A press release distributed Thursday stated that the woman who reported being followed was a student. However, Friday morning, officials released a statement indicating the victim was actually a university employee. In addition, the incident occurred Thursday afternoon, not Wednesday, as originally stated by police. No reason for the errors was given.
University police are warning the university community to stay alert after a university employee reported being followed as she left Pearson Hall Thursday afternoon.
The woman was working in a computer lab between 2 p.m and 3 p.m. when she noticed a man mimicking her actions, according to police. The man logged off his computer and stood up when the woman did and followed her moments later when she realized she forgot something and sat back down.
When the woman left the computer lab, the man followed her into the parking lot, police said.
The woman unsuccessfully attempted to elude the man by walking down different aisles of cars. She eventually sought the help of another woman in the parking lot, who walked with her to her car.
The man is described as 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall, between 30 and 40 years old, with a dark complexion, short dark hair and a muscular body.
University police urge anyone with information or who feels he or she is being followed to call police at (302) 831-2222.
