Phishing scam hits university

On Thursday, some students received emails as part of an online phishing scam tailored to deceive university students. The messages, which had the subject line “Your Webmail Account is on Restriction,” appeared to come from the university’s Information Technologies department, but is actually from a suspect site attempting to harvest students’ information. Students are warned to not click any email they receive with this subject line.

IT representatives issued guidelines on avoiding phishing scams, which included keeping software up-to-date and not opening emails from people or organizations that appear unfamiliar. Students are also encouraged to forward emails they believe are phishing scams to spam@uce.gov.
