A distinct and pungent odor became painfully obvious upon entering the unassuming house on Courtney Street. The scent was reminiscent of sweaty feet.
"Yeah, we've got a lot of shoes, I guess we're used to the smell by now," junior Kevin Kemmerle, a member of the men's cross country team, said.
A pile of approximately 10 pairs of not-so-gently used sneakers have found residence next to the front door.
Kemmerle lives with roommates senior Tim Brock, juniors Matt Johnson and Gregg Cantwell in what has been deemed a traditional house for members of the track and cross country teams. All four are runners and their house shows it.
Since 1999, runners have inhabited the house and their marks can be seen upon entering the residence. There hangs an impressive blue and gold cross country painting on the wall of the living room and Johnson said it has been on the wall for years.
In the kitchen is a wall plastered with photographs dating back to the original cross country residents of the house, which has continuously been updated with fresh photos from the past eight seasons. The kitchen walls are also marred with hundreds of tiny holes, which the roommates said came from the hours upon hours they spent perfecting their darts expertise.
The living room, according to Johnson, is home to the site of one unforgettable mint battle.
"There used to be a huge collection of dinner mints in here that I guess were slowly taken from the dining halls," he said. "Just thousands of them. One day last year somebody decided to throw a couple across the table while we were watching TV. Next thing you know, hundreds of mints are just getting hurled everywhere, and the next morning the floor is literally caked in thousands of mints.
