The 5K is part of Winterfest, the city's annual festival on the Academy Lawn, which traditionally features an ice sculptor.

The fifth annual Reindeer Run and Romp, part of the city's Winterfest celebration, will force the closure of Academy Street and the alteration of university bus routes Friday evening.

The event, a 5K race throughout central campus, will close Academy Street between Main Street and Delaware Avenue from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The road will also be closed between Delaware Avenue and Waterworks Lane sporadically between 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m, as will Courtney Street.

Changes to the university shuttle bus routes include:

— Chapel Street/Wyoming Road, operations terminate at Smith Overpass at 5:54 pm.

— South Campus, operations terminate at Smith Overpass at 5:48 pm.

— Laird Campus, after 5:40 pm, will follow Paper Mill Rd/West Campus Route, passing Rodney and Dickinson, traveling on Elkton Road to Park Place, ending at Smith Overpass Northbound, not servicing Academy Street

— Evening 1 will not service Academy Street until after 7:30 pm.

— Evening 2 will start at Smith Overpass traveling to Elkton Road, back to Smith Overpass northbound by way of Park Place, and from Smith northbound, the bus will go directly to Cleveland Avenue followed by South Chapel Street, not servicing Perkins, 163 Elkton Rd. and Amstel Avenue.

Winterfest, to be held on the Academy Lawn Friday night, traditionally features caroling, ice sculpting and a tree-lighting ceremony.
